The violence takes many forms and can happen all the time or once in a while.
Family violence is when someone uses abusive behaviour to control and/or harm a member of their family, or someone with whom they have an intimate relationship.
It can be hard to break the pattern of abuse, but it is possible.
Child abuse includes physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
This includes sexual touching or forcing sexual activity on a spouse, a common law partner or a dating partner.
Even when married, a spouse cannot be forced to have sexual contact.
